Is this the coolest heli ski experience ever?

Skeena Heli Skiing introduce ‘Base Camp’ this season. A first of it’s kind glamping heli ski experience.

Not many campers can claim a helicopter on call outside their tent door.  Skeena Heli Skiing’s new Base Camp experience offers just that to a select group of ten guests at a time.

Think of Base Camp as heli skiing for the truly truly adventurous.  The seasonal facility is accessed only by helicopter and features ten individual arctic inspired luxury tents and comes complete with guides, chef, chopper pilots and more. Yes the tents are luxury, but they are still tents.

The camp is based on a ‘leave no trace’ environmental policy and has an environmentally sensitive waste disposal program.  Translated? There are no ensuites.

The entire Base Camp is set up at the beginning of each winter and is taken down at the end of the season leaving nothing behind. All the structures are temporary and set on firmly packed snow.

Expect custom round log beds in twin singles or a double with 100% sheep wool duvet and a thermostat regulated heater. Add an amenities tent with two individual and private showers cubicles, on demand hot water system and biodegradable body wash, shampoo and conditioner all provided.

Room service, mini bar and turn down service is not included. Sigh.

The heart of the heli Base Camp is the “Freedome” a large communal area with lounge, dining area and all important bar. This is where you share stories and drink enough to brave the short skip back to your tent after dark.

So where is this glamp? Base Camp is located in the Kuldo Valley in British Columbia, 580 meters above sea level in the heart of the Skeena heliskiing tenure. It’s location is fly in and fly out only, no other access than with the Helicopters and it is a 8 min flight from the operation’s Bear Claw Lodge should you be missing cable television.

The crew at Skeena have set up the camp as a six day package for a total of ten guests with heli skiing all day every day.

It will set you back CAD$8900 for the week including up to 30 500 vertical metres (100 000 vertical feet) of skiing or boarding. Once you surpass that you can pay $149 per 1000 vertical metres.
