An ode to Japan’s mega December snowfall to make you salivate

Pic by Rhythm Japan, Niseko.

Japan must have been doing something right recently because they sure as hell have been rewarded with record snowfalls of metres, yes multiple metres, of December snow and skiers and boarders are frothing from their powder gills. Three words. Bring a snorkel.

Niseko

Let’s start with Niseko because they are claiming over 6 metres snowfall for December. That’s three Aussie ski seasons right there in one, with three more months to go.

One man’s powder is another man’s powder, or something like that. Either way, there’s plenty to share in Niseko right now before the crowds descend for January.

Here’s one for the young at heart!

Furano

Meanwhile in the rest of Hokkaido the fine folk of Rusutsu, Furano, Tomamu, Kiroro and friends are lapping up their fair share of the island’s famed super light super dry super heavenly powder. These runs were filmed in Furano.

Cortina, Hakuba

Patrick Fox from Powdermania has been out and about with Matt Ward getting amongst it and capturing the powder on film because the rest of us aren’t there. Why not? Why are we not there? There are plane tickets aplenty. Let’s go!

Madarao

They don’t call it Madapow for nothing.
