It looks like some of New Zealand’s ski fields may open early after this week’s snow storm has dumped almost a metre at some resorts.

Snow fell to 300 metres in the Southern Lakes regions with Arrowtown residents waking to snow on the ground. The Crown Range between Queenstown and Wanaka was closed and there is more wild winter weather on the way this weekend.

Meanwhile New Zealand ski fields scored some seriously impressive pre ski season snowfall. Treble Cone was calling 75 centimetres up top yesterday and Coronet Peak woke this morning to another 30 centimetres of snow after yesterday’s 30 centimetres.

Word on the snow street is The Remarkables will open early so watch this space as the race to become the first Kiwi ski resort turning lifts for 2018 begins. Our resident meteorologist, Alex Zadnik will be publishing weekly snow forecasts on SnowsBest every Wednesday throughout the ski season for Australia and New Zealand.
