The ‘ultimate’ luxury Canadian escape for snow mountain lovers

There’s a quiet mountain achiever in the Canadian Rockies, away from the bright lights of big ski town resorts. The remote Jasper National Park boasts ski boot wilderness luxury.

Jasper National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) in Alberta is known for wildlife, glaciers, and vistas of the Canadian Rockies that will have your jaw dropping to the ground.  Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is nestled within, an enclave of luxe log cabins and cedar chalets perches on an emerald lake not far from Marmot Basin Ski Resort. It just gets better, right?

Start your ski day with breakfast at the Lodge before going early morning ice skating on Lake Mildrid and finish it with ski après in the outdoor hot tub while you take in the views of the surrounding mountains.

Nearby Marmot Basin boasts 91 runs, 7 lifts and the highest base elevation of any Canadian ski resort, resulting in seriously good snow and a great range of terrain across bumps, chutes, alpine bowls, trees, groomers and – of course – beginner terrain for those just finding their feet on their skis or board.

You can even ski all the way through to May, with February and March proving to be some of the best months for reliable snow and runs that you’ll have all to yourself. Bliss.

The ultimate history

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge’s legacy started in 1915 when the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway came to town and built what was called ‘Tent City’ on the shores of Lac Beauvert. These tents became log cabins and were eventually replaced with cedar chalets by the early 1950s.

Eventually, the lodge acquired a main building and additional chalets, along with boutiques, dining facilities and sports lounge. When you rest your head here, you’re stepping back in time to Canada’s earliest days exploring this area.

The ultimate amenities

Included in your stay at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is a wide range of winter activities like cross-country skis, ice skating, snowshoe rentals, toboganning and more – plus access to the 24 hours Fitness Center, sauna and steam room and year-round outdoor pool and hot tub.

The ultimate multi resort itinerary

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Pair your stay in Jasper with a trip to Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and you have the ultimate luxury mountain escape amongst some of Canada’s most famous peaks and hotels.

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a throwback to an era long ago, a time when no one was watching their smartphones – they were looking at the views. And there’s plenty of those to go around.

The hotel is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and lush pine forests and a frozen lake at your door.  You can ice skate on the lake or wander across to look at frozen waterfalls, then go skiing at the nearby Lake Louise Ski Resort. Or venture further afield and explore ski resorts Banff Sunshine and Mount Norquay.

You can also explore the Johnston Canyon Ice Walk, spot a huge range of wildlife – especially deer, elk and mountain goats – and explore the hot springs on offer in the area.
