Luxe home with private cat skiing for sale in Colorado

Imagine being one of only 12 homes with ski in ski out access to your own private cat skiing operation in Colorado for you and your friends.

We’ve been trying to get a sneak peak of Cimarron Club in South West Colorado so we can show you the latest high end ski project near Telluride all winter with little luck. Though it may be our bank balance, not our journalist credentials, that is preventing an invitation on the cat.

Because prospective buyers wanting ‘in’ on their own private cat ski field to share with a mere other 11 homes need to front up with at the minimum US$2.7million to consider purchasing one of the 35 to 204 acres lots of land. Then they need to fork out between US$50 000 and US$90 000 annual dues.

So here’s what I know should you have any spare mullah lying around and fancy impressing your friends with your uber exclusive ultra private skiing experience. Though I expect an invite on the preview cat as you’re wined and dined after thigh burning cat ski runs in the hope of luring you into signing on the dotted line.

CMC Trail Map (48x36) 2015

Cimarron Mountain Club is the brain child of a group of former CEOs, 2ICs and COOs of various ski resorts (think Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Beaver Creek and Crested Butte) made up of seven men and one woman. The luxe hospitality experience is thanks to one of the founders developing one of our favourite hotels, The Little Nell in Aspen.

There are no paved roads at Cimarron. The access to your home and the terrain is by snowmobile or snow tracked machines including a snow cat. There’s a club house should home owners get lonely and want to mingle with fellow Cimarron Club owners or invite guests to take a seat in the cat and there’s a three bedroom guest house available to all 12 site owners.

The club’s private cat skiing terrain in the San Juan Mountains is bigger than Aspen Mountain and the private clubs mission is to ‘protect wilderness and preserve powder.’ The terrain has been thoughtfully graded with 60 runs and another 20 in the pipeline and there is something for everyone from beginner to extreme skier or boarder.

You can expect the following in terms of snowfall and vertical drop.

Average Annual Snowfall- 300+ Inches (750cms)
Base elevation- 9,820 feet (2993metres)
Summit Elevation- 11,430 Feet (3483metres)
Vertical Drop- 1,610 Feet (490 metres)
Skiable Terrain- 1,000+ acres (404 hectares)
Number of Ski Runs- 60+
Longest Run- Uncompahgre — 2.07 Miles (3.3kms)

You won’t go unguided either, the team have employed former ski patrollers and experienced mountain guides to show you some of the best the San Juans legendary powder and terrain has to offer.
