Have your say in the future of Baw Baw and Lake Mountain

The Future Options Papers for Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain Alpine Resorts have been released for public comment on Tuesday 16 August 2016. The papers present eight future options for each resort that have been informed by background research and feedback received during Stage 1 consultation.

Each future option represents a direction the Boards of Mount Baw Baw and Lake Mountain Alpine Resorts could take to enable the resorts to adapt to climate change, continue to provide economic and social benefits to surrounding areas and to be financially sustainable.

Whilst it may require a combination of these options to best meet the project objective, throughout Stage 2 the options are being discussed as individual options, not combinations. We expect that this will enable the project team to gain a good understanding of each options’ strengths and weaknesses.

The outcome of the Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain 2030 will be the development of a report containing a set of recommendations to present to Hon Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change to inform the futures of both resorts for the next 10 to 15 years. The recommendations will outline the approach that best enable Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain Alpine Resorts to adapt to climate change, ensure the economic and social benefits that flow from the resorts to the surrounding regional communities are maximised, and that the resorts are financially sustainable.

“The Boards invite all those who are interested in the future of these iconic places to read the Future Directions papers and provide their feedback on the options” says Allan Bawden, Chairman of the Boards.

“We have been appreciative of the feedback we have received to date, and encourage all people with an interest in the resorts to take this opportunity to provide their view on what transformational initiatives should be pursued to make the resorts even better.”

The recommendations for the future of the Mt Baw Baw and Lake Mountain Alpine Resorts will be based on insights from community members and stakeholders who visit, work and have an interest in the resorts who have until Sunday 4 September to provide their input.

People are encouraged to visit the project website for more information http://haveyoursay.delwp.vic.gov.au/Mt-Baw-Baw-and-Lake-Mountain-2030 and to provide feedback by joining the online conversation, completing the feedback form and registering to attend a discussion group.
