Local Jindabyne born and bred boarder cross legend, Adam Lambert, competes in his first Olympics this week and his alma mater are celebrating with an early mark.

Lambert is a medal hope for Australia, hot off his first FIS World Cup Podium this current season at Val Thorens where he won silver.

The Jindy boy, aged 20, took up boarder cross in 2008 switching from ski racing to Interschools snowboarding at the age of 10. Five year later he competed in his first Nor Am Cup and placed 20th. He has gone on to place 7th at the Feldberg World Cup in 2017 and sixth at the La Molina World Cup in the same season followed by a 6th place finish at the World Championships in Sierra Nevada.

To celebrate Lambert’s Olympic status, the Jindabyne Central School where Lambert attended until Year 12, will give an early mark to allow those who are able to finish at 2.50pm with Department of Education approval, so they can cheer on Lambert in his event at the local bowlo. The boarder cross competition starts at 3.30pm Jindabyne time and the school will also provide supervision to those students who cannot be collected at this earlier time.

“As a school Jindabyne Central School is bubbling with immense pride for our former student, Adam Lambert who is making his debut as an Olympian” said Debbie-Lee Hughes, the Principal of Jindabyne Central School.

“Students have been writing hero messages to Adam and I know they too are pleased to know and love Adam- as a community member he has given back to the school community by conducting the ‘Little Shredders” program and our students look up to him and aspire to be as good as he is” continues Hughes.

“He was always so humble in his achievements and quietly went about setting and reaching his goals, he is now to be rewarded as an Australian Olympian.

As a school that is in the foot of the Snowy Mountains, we have followed the developing talents of all of our students and look forward to recognising Adam’s achievements as a member of our Jindabyne Central School family.”
