Ten Australian ski instructors from Thredbo are having the time of their Olympic lives with gigs working on the course at the freestyle events at Phoenix Snow Park in Bokwang. It’s a far cry from the snow laden gum trees of Jindabyne with all sorts of crazy madness.
The crew enrolled as instructors for Phoenix Snow Park and were told part of the deal for the season was to work on the Olympics. Little did they know at the time that they would be front and centre as National Technical Officers on the aerials, halfpipe, moguls and slope style courses. Literally breathing the same event air as Scotty James, Lydia Lassila and Britt Cox.
Their role? To build and maintain the pristine conditions of the courses and landings. Considering our aerial skiers are medal contenders, that’s a lot of pressure on getting those landing conditions just right.
We caught up with the Thredbo crew in PyeongChang to chat weird things in Korea, medal contenders and more.
