Aspen Snowmass extends season hours

Aspen Snowmass announces extended daily operations on Aspen Mountain for an extra week through Sunday, Apr. 23. With over a foot of new snow in the past seven days, a majority of Aspen Mountain will remain open with top-to-bottom skiing and riding accessed via the Silver Queen Gondola, Ajax Express, F.I.S chair and Ruthies lift.

Hours of operation will shift to the following, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., to take advantage of spring conditions, unless it is a powder day, and then the lifts will open at 9 a.m.

With reports coming in at five inches of new snow overnight, 10 inches in the last 48 hours and up to 17 inches in the past seven days, winter has returned to Aspen Snowmass with plenty of spring skiing and riding left.

“With good base depths from early-season snowfall and the addition of new snow, Aspen Mountain is looking in good shape for a bonus week,” says Peter King, Aspen Mountain Manager. “Spring on Ajax is always a great time to come-out and enjoy some sunshine, après as well as prime slush bumps.”

Food and beverage options will be available at the Sundeck restaurant, located at the top of Aspen Mountain, and the Aspen Mountain Ski and Snowboard School will remain open with a special 40% off private lessons for the extended week.

End of season events

Aspen Highlands and Snowmass round-out the season with closing weekend festivities such as the rescheduled Freestyle Friday and the ninth annual Schneetag at Aspen Highlands, and a new event called Surf and Snow Beach Party that will take place at Elk Camp on Snowmass.

Rescheduled due to weather, Freestyle Friday will now take place Friday, Apr. 7 from Noon-2 p.m. at Aspen Highlands on Scarlett’s Run. Returning after a 13 year hiatus, the event consists of skiers competing in a single elimination competition where they will race side-by-side down a course consisting of 400 feet of bumps, two skier cross banking turns, a spine jump, a big air jump and a rail slide.

The winner will be crowned by a combination of the fastest time and overall impression. A jammy pack is included with entry and registrants can sign up from 10 a.m.-Noon day-of-event in Merry-Go-Round restaurant. Cost to enter is $25.

Once again, Schneetag (pronounced Sch-knee Tog), will take place Sunday, Apr. 9 at Merry-Go-Round restaurant, located mid-mountain on Aspen Highlands. Teams of four are invited to create a craft they will pilot down a slope and attempt to float across a 20 by 50 foot pond. Each team will present a theme and perform a skit before they descend. Entry is free, but pre-registration online is required. The competition starts at 1:30 p.m.

New this season, Elk Camp, located mid-mountain on Snowmass, will salute to another great season with a Surf and Snow Beach Party scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 15 from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Beach party fun will include tunes by DJ Naka G, free leis for those in swim attire, volleyball, drink specials, a taco bar, margarita bike blenders as well as a raffle and prize giveaways.

At 3:30 p.m. party goers are invited to don swim attire and ski down the mountain for a chance to break the North American record attempt for largest swimsuit parade. For non-skiers who wish to take the Elk Camp gondola, sightseeing tickets will still be available for purchase.

Available April-May, the Limelight Hotel will once again offer Colorado locals a special lodging rate starting at only $145/night for Standard and Deluxe room types (based on availability), which includes the popular Limelight breakfast spread, free local shuttles, complimentary use of fat bikes, Wi-Fi and more. All other room types are 20 percent off. A valid Colorado ID is required upon check-in.
