There’s a new ski condo with a difference for nightly rental in Falls Creek, Australia. Think of it as a tiny home, only a spaceship, from Japan, in the seventies.
Robert Morgan has opened the doors on his new BobHubSki property on Falls Creek Road in the ski in ski out condo complex known as The Hub. The Melbourne based business owner bought the 27 square metre space in 2015 for just under $100 000. Then he got to work.
Bob employed the award winning architectural team at March Studio (Rodney Eggleston and Jenny Kan) with one brief.
“Utilise a very small space to captivate my idea of a “1970’s japanese spaceship” and at the same time make it very functional and a comfortable place to go skiing in winter and enjoy the outdoors in summer” says Morgan. “I didn’t want to have the generic Nordic type ski chalet. I really wanted something “funky & dateless”.
BobHubSki, as he has called his apartment, sleeps four in two king size single bunk beds in a Japanese capsule style and a queen Murphy bed that pulls down from the wall.
The space does have natural light with a window, 3 metres by 1.2 metres, with a view of the Summit.
There’s a Japanese style sunken bath and a fully appointed kitchen with wine fridge and internal laundry with Asko washer and dryer. Oven and cook top is Meile, dishwasher is Fisher and Paykel.
Plus the property boasts a full Bose entertainment system, individual television entertainment units in each bunk with their own remote. The property is also ski in ski out.·
“The biggest challenge to creating this space was the fact that I don’t live in Falls Creek so I could only work on it on weekends and that made it hard to get it finished in time for the snow season” says Morgan who lives four hundred kilometers away in Melbourne.
“I do love Falls Creek as it is where I learnt to ski at five years of age” explains Morgan. “I have been fond of the building called “The Hub” for a while now so when the space came for sale I snapped it up. I have skied in Europe, Japan, New Zealand, North America and all of Australian slopes but Falls Creek’s is my favourite.”
How much will it cost you to spend a night in the spaceship? AU$500 in peak season but rates vary throughout the season. You can book directly through Multi Mountain Services and check out the BobHubSki Facebook page.
