If there’s one thing the ski and snowboard world love it’s a juicy rumour, especially when it involves Vail Resorts.

Some are less tenable than others. Vail buying Ohau in New Zealand seems highly unlikely, Vail buying Kiroro in Japan not so much and the rumours swirled at the eleventh hour that a Japan deal fell through. Club Med later went on to make the Hokkaido purchase while we wait to hear which Japan resort Vail will eventually surely acquire.

One thing we do know is that Vail Resorts as a publicly listed company keep their cards extremely close to their resort buying chest. Who saw the purchase of Perisher? Not us. Though Falls Creek and Hotham rumours circulated days before the official announcement.

Word now comes from the pages of Swiss news service, Blick who got their info from the other news service Le Temps. Not content with owning the luxe resort of Andermatt, the paper reports that Vail Resorts has it’s eye on a second Swiss resort.

Which one? The swanky Crans Montana in the Valais. Home to a 12km ski run and views from the Matterhorn to Mont Blanc, Michelin star restaurants and a Six Senses.

According to both news outlets “The Vail Resorts company is in very advanced negotiations with the CPI Property Group holding company of Czech billionaire Radovan Vitek, majority shareholder of CMA.”

“Apparently” the deal will be announced by the end of the month. Or will it?
