Due to some unusually warm temperatures pre-season, Treble Cone will be postponing the start of the 2016 season.

Despite the lack of snow, over 180 hospitality, ticketing, snow sport instructors and operational staff underwent a full season training programme last week. With all mountain and snow making staff on standby, Treble Cone is ready to open at the earliest opportunity.

This unseasonal weather pattern has resulted in insufficient snow cover across the Saddle Basin and has limited snow making in the Home Basin. Operational staff are monitoring the forecast closely, and are hopeful for snow in the near future.

“We’re excited for the 2016 season and everyone is raring to go. We understand it’s hugely frustrating for both customers and staff but Mother Nature doesn’t always work in our favour. We have a strong team in place and some exciting new initiatives for this season and are all very keen for the season to begin. We will open as soon as we’re physically able,” Jackie van der Voort, CEO, Treble Cone Ski Area.

Treble Cone has been extremely busy over the summer months in preparation for the ski season. With a major $1 million upgrade to the Home Basin Express, two brand new imported Kassbohrer PistenBully grooming machines, new dedicated Family Chill Zone, the JUCY Sizzle – a new end-of-day BBQ outlet, and new daily transport services from Wanaka to Treble Cone.

“We are disappointed that the season opening is delayed, but we are excited about the coming season. Treble Cone’s conditions will be monitored on a daily basis and a days’ notice will be announced prior to opening.”

Treble Cone will open with celebratory Amisfield bubbles when opening day does arrive.
