Cardrona Resort in New Zealand has long been a favourite among skiers and snowboarders thanks to its diverse terrain, breathtaking alpine views and top-notch Kiwi hospitality.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better – a big upgrade is on the horizon.

Set your sights on winter 2025, as the team Cardrona will be delivering the much-anticipated Soho Basin expansion.

Introducing the Soho Basin Express

The centerpiece of the upgrade is the brand new 6-seater detachable Doppelmayr chairlift, named the Soho Basin Express.

This state-of-the-art chairlift will provide access to an additional 150 hectares of terrain, significantly expanding the resort’s offerings. This means more space for everyone to enjoy, from seasoned pros to those finding their feet on the slopes.

The upcoming expansion to Cardrona

The new terrain is designed with intermediate and advanced riders in mind, featuring playful areas, fantastic snow conditions, and challenging steep runs.

Just get those ski legs ready – once the expansion is complete, Cardrona will officially become the largest ski resort in New Zealand.

Enhancements Beyond the Slopes

With the expected influx of visitors eager to experience the new terrain, Cardrona is also focusing on upgrading its facilities to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience.

This includes a new snowmaking system and upgrading facilities at the base building to accommodate increased capacity; new parking and improved mountain road shuttles; plus a brand new building featuring a retail store, food and beverage options, seating and viewing areas for guests to enjoy.

It comes off the back of a long history of Cardrona’s dedication to guest experience. Historical upgrades have included a new Guest Services space, enhanced retail areas, new dining options and their ‘chondola’ – the combined gondola and chairlift which went in a few years ago to improve skier and boarder access.

Explore the Terrain

The new Soho Basin

For those already familiar with Cardrona’s offerings, the new Soho Basin terrain will be reminiscent of the Captain’s area —fun and playful, with a mix of groomed runs and off-piste opportunities.

And if you’re new to the resort? There’s no better time to explore. The south-westerly aspect of the basin promises great snow accumulation, with conditions perfect for a long season of skiing and snowboarding. Expect some top-notch spring skiing opportunities, as the snow tends to stick around well into the later part of the season.
