Snowboxx 2020 music festival heading to Cardrona in September

Get excited, for real this time. Remember that big winter music festival, Snowboxx, that was announced two years ago to run last year in Queenstown but then didn’t run and was never spoken of again?

Well it’s back in the Southern Hemisphere 2020 with a new resort town (hint, it’s Wanaka), a new collaboration with the legendary Rhythm & Alps promoters and launching this year in September at Cardrona, and we’re told by the folks at Snowboxx that it will really, truly, happen this time.

“Unfortunately, there was a scheduling conflict which meant that there wasn’t going to be enough accommodation in Queenstown for Snowboxx guests due to Winter Pride” explained Snowboxx promoter Rob Tominey from Main Stage Festivals of 2019.

“We’re really excited to launch the (2020) NZ edition of Snowboxx, it’s designed to be a truly unforgettable experience at an affordable price. Beyond the mountains and music, revellers can look forward to a smorgasbord of fun-fuelled activities including a snowball arena, inflatable races, bottomless brunches and slope-side raves.”

There’s no official 2020 dates just yet. Hmmmm. But we do know they’ve at least scheduled it for September at Cardrona and that Snowboxx is Europe’s biggest winter music festival with the likes of Fatboy Slim, Craig David, Rudimental, Basement Jaxx, Stormzy, Bicep regularly gracing their main stage at Avoriaz, France.

The plan is to host an action-packed program of parties and performances slope-side, as part of a world-class production and the destination’s 40th birthday celebrations.

With a series of outdoor stages and a total resort takeover, Snowboxx NZ will be recreating the European extravaganza, now in it’s eighth year. The New Zealand edition promises an avalanche of the hottest international electronic music artists who will perform alongside talent from across Australia and New Zealand.

Snowboxx packages will include seven nights of accommodation in Wanaka and a festival wristband starting at NZ$440 per person. That’s AUD$423 on today’s exchange rate. Not bad, not bad at all.

Dates and full line-up to be announced. Promise. Though we’d like to request Flume, Muto, Tones and I and SIA with some Lorde and Bic Runga on the side please.
