Become a World Record holder in March 2016 by taking part in Ski 4 Cancer’s Everest Challenge. The Challenge will take place on the slopes of Austria’s largest ski area (Saalbach) on Friday 11 March.
UK ski charity Ski 4 Cancer is calling for skiers from across Europe in an attempt to set a new World Record on Friday the 11th of March 2016. The challenge will be to descend the height of Mount Everest (29,029ft) as one large group and raise funds for Ski 4 Cancer at the same time.
This is the first time such a world record has ever been attempted.
The challenge will take place in the Austrian ski resort of Saalbach. With more than 270 kilometres of piste, varying degrees of difficulty and 70 ski lifts – the Skicircus which links the resorts of Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn is the largest ski area in Austria.
Andy Hayward, Trustee at Ski 4 Cancer said “We’re looking for 500 skiers from across Europe who want to become World Record holders! In this unique event, skiers from lots of different countries will be united in one common cause – to raise funds to help fight cancer. Skiing the height of Mount Everest in one day will be a tough challenge though, even for more advanced skiers.”
“With a number of check-points and entertainment zones on the course, this event is going to be a lot of fun and there’ll be prizes for individuals and teams who raise the most funds for the charity. Challengers will be joined by a number of high profile celebrities from the world of skiing and they’ll be a massive party afterwards for all those who have taken part.”
Andy concluded “We all know someone who has been affected by cancer… nearly 1,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every day. So if you’ve yet to book your ski trip for this year, why not join us. Become a World Record holder and help people living with cancer at the same time.”
Commenting on the announcement, Wolfgang Breitfuß, Director of Tourism at Saalbach said “We are proud to be hosting this event on the slopes of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. As the biggest ski region in Austria, we are incredibly proud of our World Class facilities. They are perfect for a World Record attempt like this and we look forward to welcoming the Ski 4 Cancer team in March.”

About Ski 4 Cancer
Ski 4 Cancer was set up by a group of keen skiers and snowboarders who have all lost a close relative or friend to cancer. By providing a range of alpine respite holidays for families living with cancer, Ski 4 Cancer gives families something to look forward to at the end of treatment schedules or after a loved one has died. Ski 4 Cancer also makes grants to palliative care centres and supports research into the positive effects of exercise and how it can both prevent cancer and assist in people’s recovery post diagnosis.
