Tragic news out of New Zealand as three members of South Korea’s national ski team have lost their lives in a vehicle collision near Geraldine on the South Island on Wednesday afternoon.

In New Zealand to compete in the Winter Games, the South Korean team were travelling after a day of training at Roundhill Ski Area near Tekapo when the collision with a four-wheel-drive vehicle occurred.

A fourth member of the South Korean team is in critical condition and the driver of the four wheel drive has been critically injured.

Names of the members of the ski team have not yet been released but it is known the team was travelling in a convoy and other team members witnessed the horrific crash.

Two helicopters, four ambulances and firefighters all attended the scene.

The New Zealand Herald reports that the accident on State Highway 79 occurred on the same stretch of road that killed three others in April last year.

Our thoughts are with the South Korean ski team, their family and friends as well as The Winter Games community.
