Good news for Remarkables skiers and snowboarders for the 2024 ski season as the New Zealand resort has received DOC approval for the new Shadow Basin chairlift.
The chairlift will open 47 hectares of new terrain after the Department of Conservation approved the replacement of the current 33 year old quad chair.
A six seater Doppelmayr chairlift will be installed in time for next winter, giving easier access to the Alta Chutes and reducing travel time to 3 and a half minutes.
The resort’s new chair project, costing $23million including new snowmaking within Shadow Basin, will take 2400 skiers and boarders per hour.
The DOC concession is for 30 years. NZ Ski has now applied for a resource consent from the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
