This week Powder Mountain announced two new lifts that will launch this season and expand the Utah resort to 8464 skiable acres with 7900 lift accessed acres, beating Park City’s 7300 acres by 600.

But it gets better. The resort will also limit day tickets to 2000 per day and adult season passes to 1000 which means no lift lines.

The two new SkyTrac Lifts (Village lift and Mary’s lift) will access over 1000 acres of new terrain and open up four lift accessible side country areas creating 8464 of total skiable acres.

The resort now claims the “largest lift-serviced resort expansion in North American History”, “the largest ski resort in the USA” and “the lowest skier density of any major ski area in North America.”

Powder Mountain is owned by Summit Powder Mountain, the crew behind the entrepreneurial Summit Series that connects entrepreneurs with established successful thought leaders. Funds were crowdsourced for the resort purchase with a key driver to support creative achievement, drive positive global change and support entrepreneurship.

In the words of the resort’s press release – “Since the resort is not owned by a large corporation or private equity firm, it has the ability to reject the usual corporate resort formula of mega-homes, luxury outlets, and crowds reminiscent of an amusement park.” Ok, then.

The release went on to quote Powder Mountain’s General Manager.

“We strive to maintain the uncrowded, wide open, adventurous experience Pow Mow is known for. By adding two new lifts and over 1,000 acres of new lift accessible terrain, capping ticket sales at 2,000 per day and establishing a limit of 1,000 adult season pass holders annually, we aim to keep our skier density of 1 acre per skier” said Mark Schroetel, General Manager of Power Mountain Resort.

“Compare that with some of the largest resorts in the region who routinely see skier densities in excess of 14 skiers per acre, it is easy to see that we are truly committed to Preserving the Pow! With an advanced full price lift ticket price of $79, we truly offer all the terrain of the largest resorts in the country at half the price and a fraction of the crowd.”

The lifts are scheduled to start operating in mid December this year.
