The New South Wales Government has today announced Perisher as a potential Covid-19 hotspot to watch, despite no active cases being recorded.
This is due to samples collected from the sewage treatment plant on Wednesday, July 22 testing positive for the presence of Covid-19. Further sampling and analysis is required to assess the significance of this initial positive result.
The positive sewage result can be due to shedding of the virus by someone who may have previously had the illness, with the virus ‘shedding’ through their system for up to four weeks later.
There have been no cases of COVID-19 identified in Perisher or Thredbo but the government is encouraging anyone that has been in the area with even mild symptoms to get tested as a precaution.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council has advised that if you feel unwell and are still in the area to go to one of these locations:
- Perisher Clinic, NSW National Parks Building – extended hours 9:30am – 2pm daily
- Jindabyne Clinic, NEW LOCATION – double capacity at HealthOne Carpark, 5 Thredbo Terrace, Jindabyne 9am – 4pm daily
- Thredbo Clinic, Friday Drive behind Information Centre, open 9:30am – 2pm daily
- Cooma Clinic (at Hospital & Health Service) 9am – 5pm daily
- Bombala Multi-Purpose Service, Wellington Street – appointments still required, call 18090 999 880 (option 2)
