We’ve got to the point now where it’s easier to report on who is still open rather than the resort closures being announced regularly over the past few days in the USA.
Aspen Snowmass closed but they are/were hoping for a late spring reopening (aren’t we all) while the locals have taken to uphill ski touring.
Alterra Mountain Company have closed all of their North American resorts for the season so that means Deer Valley, Steamboat, Solitude, Mammoth, Squaw and friends.
Vail Resorts have closed all of their North American resorts for at least a week, though any in Colorado (Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge, Crested Butte) will now be closed indefinitely by order of the state governor who has shut all Colorado ski resorts, including uphill access at Arapahoe Basin.
So, who remains open? One thing’s guaranteed by the time we’ve written and published things will have changed again. You can keep up to date here.
USA Resorts
As for now, Powder Mountain in Utah remains open. They already offer only limited tickets per day and have reduced that again plus shut their rentals, food service and lodge.
Schweitzer in Idaho is also clinging on with reduced offerings.
Brian Head in Utah also remains open.
Canada
Whistler, SilverStar, Fernie, Kimberley and Kicking Horse all announced they are suspending operations for a week. Though that will no doubt change.
Whitewater announced season closure yesterday, Red Mountain and Revelstoke announced the same today.
Banff Sunshine Village remains open with stringent protocols and a guaranteed refund for anyone wanting to cancel.
Big White and Sun Peaks both remain open, as does Apex. However the Canadian Prime Minister announced more rigid protocols today that may see open turn to close soon.
*March 22 update – as predicted, all are now closed for the season.
