Aspen Snowmass is iconic for a reason. Home to four distinct mountains nestled into the Colorado Rockies, all accessible on the one pass, there’s seemingly endless terrain to explore – along with the type of village that attracts everyone from celebrities to longtime ski bums.
If it’s been a while since your last trip, or you’re visiting for the first time, there’s a lot to look forward to. Think massive developments like brand new terrain, ever-expanding villages and a whole lot of new luxury experiences.
Here’s the latest of what there is to love about Aspen Snowmass.
A brand new ski area
Aspen Snowmass offers access to four mountains on the one pass – Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk.
Each have their own perks. Aspen Mountain has a longtime skiing heritage, with steep slopes and challenging glades; Snowmass is the largest of the four, with a huge variety of terrain for all ski levels; Aspen Highlands is best for experts, with the Highland Bowl a famed destination for off-piste skiing; and Buttermilk is the friendliest for families while also being home to the annual Winter X Games.
New for the upcoming 2023-24 season is Pandora’s, the newest place to adventure on Aspen Mountain.
This is the resort’s most significant expansion since 1985, so you know it’s a big deal.
It adds another 153 acres of skiable terrain and 1220 vertical feet of runs to this winter playground, all accessed by a new high-speed quad.
Expect a mix of intermediate and advanced runs, with an extension of already-beloved expert runs like Walsh’s, Kristi, and Hyrup’s ensuring thrillseekers can really push their limits on heart-pumping adventures.
The refreshed villages
Beyond the slopes, Snowmass Village is becoming a vibrant hub. Previously the low-key sibling to Aspen Village’s après action, there’s a lot of recent developments that have transformed Snowmass into its own charming ski village – complete with great accommodation options, excellent dining and plenty of activities, all still a short bus ride away from Aspen.
Buttermilk has also had a transformation, with an all-new base area having been unveiled for the 2022/23 season. Complete with a 9,000+ square-foot, fully-electric skier services building, a renovated and rebranded Buttermilk Mountain Lodge restaurant and an expanded bar and outdoor patio, it’s a all-new seamless experience for the beginning, middle and end of your ski day.
The luxe ASPENX experiences
For those that can’t go past a little bit of luxury, ASPENX is the answer. A high-end retail and rental experience, you can shop everything from ASPENX x Prada ski jackets to cashmere cardigans and curated homewares.
it’s not all about the shopping either. ASPENX has now extended to on-mountain experiences, like The Beach Club, a little slice of paradise nestled amidst the mountain scenery. Bask in the sunshine on plush loungers while you sip Dom Perignon, enjoy gourmet dining and take in live music. You’ll have to be quick though – the club only allows for 100 visitors per day, and reservations go quick.
If you’re after something a little bit more private, there’s Buckhorn Cabin Après. Available for private hire, expect a chef-prepared, 5-star lunch for you and a select group of friends, perfect for a special celebration 3000 feet up.
Everything else to love in Aspen
Beyond everything new, bright and luxurious in Aspen – there’s still everything else to love in this world-famous ski town. Like the incredible variety of outdoor recreation, arts, culture and nightlife that runs deep through the soul of the town; a throwback to its rustic mining and ranching history, with landmarks such as the Wheeler Opera House and Hotel Jerome all the way built back in the 1870s.
You can sip whiskies in the same bar that Hunter S. Thompson used to frequent, discover the same boutiques that have hosted Katy Perry and Gigi Hadid, or keep it low-key and discover the budget-friendly restaurant options scattered throughout town.
Not to mention the endless activities – like snowshoeing adventures, tubing, an alpine rollercoaster, snowcat dinner rides, cat skiing, snowbiking, the list goes on…
