A gondola cabin has fallen from the haul rope at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Canada this morning with up to eight passengers inside.
A hanger arm snapped on the Golden Eagle Express after departing from the bottom station base terminal as originally reported by LiftBlog. If it had happened further up the result would have been catastrophic for those inside as the gondola cabin was not far from the ground when it fell.
No major injuries have been reported, however passengers in other cabins are now trapped while waiting for maintenance crews to address the safety issue, remove the damaged hanger arm and evacuate remaining passengers in all cabins.
The incident has happened on a powder day at the resort with 23cms of fresh snow. The gondola is integral to the operation of the resort accessing the majority of the terrain. The resort is now closed for at least today.
