The annual 42km Kangaroo Hopper cross country race has been cancelled for 2024, as announced today by organisers.

Unfortunately the 2024 Kangaroo Hoppet has been cancelled due to rapidly deteriorating snow conditions on the course, combined with a weather forecast of warm temperatures and rain in the next week, which means it is not possible to host an event on the scale of the Kangaroo Hoppet.

Every year on the fourth Saturday of August the event is held on Falls Creek’s groomed trails extending out into the Bogong High Plains within the Alpine National Park.

The Kangaroo Hoppet event attracts international athletes and Olympians and is a member of the prestigious Worldloppet series.

For those who don’t feel up to the challenge of the longer distance, there’s the 21km Australian Birkebeiner and 7km Joey Hoppet “fun run” in the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl.

This is the second consecutive year the event has been cancelled due to unfavourable snow conditions.
