Hotham launches annual White Ribbon Run for domestic violence awareness

Hotham Alpine Resort’s has launched a new yearly initiative, the “White Ribbon Run”, to raise awareness and support for women suffering from domestic violence in Australia.

The inaugural White Ribbon Run saw guests and participants in the Women’s Week Program gather at the top of Slalom Gully at 8:15am yesterday. Each participant received a ribbon to tie onto their outerwear or hold as they made their way down the slope.

This symbolic gesture represented solidarity with victims of domestic violence and a commitment to supporting change. Change that is much needed as 44 have tragically died due to violence against women in Australia this year alone.

Following the run, participants met at Snake Gully Hut for coffee, where $1 from every coffee sold was donated to the White Ribbon Foundation. Vail Resorts, through the Epic Promise Foundation, matched this donation, doubling the impact of each purchase. Over $500 was raised in total as a donation to the White Ribbon Foundation.

“We’ve been hosting the Women’s Ski Week Program for several years, and this year, with our largest number of participants ever, we wanted to use the program for something bigger,” said Briony Johnson, spokesperson for the Women’s Employee Resource Group at Vail Resorts.

“We decided to use this opportunity to raise awareness and support for victims of domestic violence. Violence against women can happen anywhere, and we all have a role to play in driving change. As part of the Women’s Employee Resource Group at Vail Resorts, I am proud to play a part in that change.”
