Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows officially launched its new mobile application, designed to enhance the guest experience on and off the mountain with easy group creation and tracking, detailed performance tracking, Village navigation, lift ticket pre-purchase capabilities and real-time lift, trail and snow data.
With the resort opening early, between Nov. 11-18, the app will serve as a critical tool for the 2016-17 season and guests are encouraged to download the app in advance of their visit.
Designed and developed by the creators of the SkiLynx app, featured as “Best New Ski App” in WIRED Magazine, TechCrunch, Outside Online and Tom’s Guide, the new Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows app is the first resort app to offer easy one-touch “group” creation, allowing users to stay automatically connected with friends and family on the hill, sharing location and messaging throughout their day at the resort.
Real-time tracking shows the exact location of everyone in the group on the resort map, including exact position on lifts and runs, allowing guests to navigate the mountain seamlessly. Location-aware “Smart Messages” auto-populate user’s location into messages for easy communication with friends and family: a guest just arriving at the top of KT-22 Express, for example, can send out a pre-made message to his or her group that says “At the top of KT-22.”
Many of the features in the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows app were developed in collaboration with resort personnel, specifically for the resort experience, and are not available in the SkiLynx consumer version.
“We are thrilled to release a brand-new mobile application that will continue to enrich the Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows experience for all of our guests,” said Tom Feiten, vice president of marketing and business development.
“It will offer up-to-the-minute lift, trail and snow data, which are crucial on big storm days, plus a suite of new functions. With features that no other ski resort has yet to offer, the new Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows app is an extremely useful tool and represents our continued focus on providing the highest quality ski experience to our guests.”
In addition to connecting users with friends and family in real-time, the app utilizes an intuitive performance dashboard with daily and season-long data tracking that includes trails and lifts skied, vertical climb, miles covered, hours skied, average and maximum speeds, and the difficulty of trails skied. Users can also receive daily email recaps of their performance data.
In an effort to help skiers and riders maximize their time spent on the slopes, the new app features current chairlift wait times, allowing users to plan their runs and navigate the mountain with real-time information. Users also have the ability to pre-purchase lift tickets directly from the mobile app, adding convenience and efficiency to the purchase process.
Off the slopes the app provides an interactive map of The Village at Squaw Valley®, pointing out the user’s location in relation to key resort services. The app will also adjust seasonally, including similar features during the summer which are custom designed for the season’s activities.
The app is optimized for iOS and Android mobile devices and wearables, and can be downloaded by searching Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows in iTunes or Google Play. Current Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows app users are able to update their app via the App Store. Additional updates, which include supplementary features, can be expected throughout the 2016-17 winter season.
