Australian snowboarder Michaela Davis Meehan made history last night when she won the Freeride World Tour in Ordino Arcalis Andorra, Spain. The first Australian, skier or snowboarder, male or female, to win a Freeride World Tour event ever.
After weather delayed the competition for four days, the riders finally got to hit the face after a mega snow storm dumped snow the day before the event.
The Freeride World Tour rookie from Newcastle stepped it up to take her second podium from three FWT events this season after winning silver in the season opener at Hakuba.
Meehan rode last out of the six snowboard women competing to claim gold and an overall second place ranking on the tour.
“Oh man, soooo stoked” Davis Meehan told SnowsBest straight after the event.
“Conditions were on point! Had a super fun run and taking out the podium feels amazing. Made a few changes to my line checking the face from the chair on the way up, as the conditions had done a full 180 from the other day and it payed off. Over all, epic day!
I must say I did not think we were going to have a competition here in Andorra, the snow was super icy and I spent the down days hitting the hot tub and playing soccer. But then it came through for us with so much snow and it puked down!”
