The largest ski area in the USA, a home grown whiskey distillery, outlet malls and more. Why you need to visit Park City this season.
If the Strong El Nino predictions are not enough to get you to Utah this season then trust us, these five reasons to get to Park City will.
The gondola
Vail Resorts has linked two of North America’s greatest ski areas – creating the largest resort in the United States with 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons are now known simply as “Park City” with the tag line “There is only one.”
An 8-passenger, high-speed gondola will open this season and run from the base of the existing Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Lift at Canyons linking the two resorts. When conditions allow, gondola passengers will be able to unload at the top of Pine Cone Ridge and ski or ride directly down to Park City’s Thaynes Canyon trail via gated ski access.
The outlet malls
You’ll find Tanger Outlets a short bus ride from down town. You’ll also find major discounts on sportswear brands Under Armour, Columbia, Adidas, Nike; designer wear from Abercrombie & Fitch, Calvin Klein, Coach, Michael Kors, Guess, Nine West, Vans, Oakley plus Samsonite luggage, Sunglass Hut, Kitchen Collection, Bose and many more.
Sundance Film Festival
There’s a secret to the Sundance Film Festival held in Park City each January that few know. While the town crowds itself with red carpets and Hollywood glamour pusses pouting for the paparazzi, the ski slopes are devoid of lift lines which means so many more fresh powder turns for you.
Of course if you are a film aficionado then you know that Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival is one of the leading independent film festivals in the world and you’ll fill your schedule with panel discussions, director Q&As, film production parties, first time screenings and more.
Ski in Ski Out Whiskey Distillery and Dude Ranch
The folks from the world’s only ski in ski out whiskey distillery, High West Saloon in Old Town Park City, have opened the doors on a distillery at Blue Sky Ranch.
The new distillery is a celebration of cowboys and the American West and has the distinction of being the world’s only distillery-dude-ranch. Offering distillery tours, educational whiskey tastings as well as western-country cuisine the new distillery complements the existing Saloon downtown in Park City. Choose to apres at the Saloon or make an afternoon of it at the Ranch.
Cat Skiing on a ranch
Park City Powder Cats operates just minutes outside of Park City on over 40,000 acres of family owned land in the Uinta Mountains called The Thousand Peaks Ranch. Founded in 1921, the land then became a thriving sheep and cattle ranch in the summer months and is home to over 10,000 head of sheep and 3,000 cattle . When the sheep head south for the winters, Park City Powder Cats welcomes powder hounds on a private area larger than Vail, Aspen and Killington combined.
