The Victorian Premier, Dan Andrews, has given the state’s ski season a June 22 go ahead in a press conference this morning.
From June 1, state residents are allowed up to 20 people gathered in their home. Outdoor gatherings have also increased to 20 and the good news for hotel operators is that overnight stays in accommodation are also approved.
But there was even better news to come.
From June 22, the state’s alpine ski resorts will reopen to skiers.
“There will be able to be a ski season from June 22” said the Premier in the press conference, referencing the billion dollar ski industry. His office has since released a statement outlining the new restrictions.
“And for those eager to hit the slopes, the ski season will open slightly later this year on 22 June” reads the reference to ski resorts.
Colin Hackworth, Australian Ski Areas Association CEO told Snowsbest, “this is terrific news, not just for ski industry but for regional Australia as well, having a date, which NSW does not have yet.”
“The announcement was as much a surprise to the industry as it was to any body, but they will now be scrambling to put operating plants together as having a date enables all of the businesses and stakeholders time to get their businesses together; and to start offering employment, engaging with suppliers and also to continue to work together so we’re all on the same page setting.”
