Here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor of an Australian documentary about Lydia Lassila.

Making films is not a cheap business and making a documentary takes more than just cash in your pocket. It takes hard work, intense research, travel, fact checking and more. The Australian documentary The Will To Fly follows the story of one of our greatest Olympians of all time, winter ski aerialist Lydia Lassila.

The crew behind the film are just over a month away from finishing the film, which costs have totalled $800 000 to make. Their biggest outlay and final hurdle is the Olympic Archive bill which is in itself six figures.

What’s a girl to do? Producer Katie Bender has put it out to the inter webs and launched a fundraising campaign through The Documentary Australia Foundation.

What can you do? Donate. Anything you can towards the financing of this historic film. The registered DGR status of the Documentary Australia Foundation means that 100% of any donation is entirely tax deductible.

Bender says that Will to Fly will “inspire and encourage males and females to achieve their dreams, prove that women can be just as capable and skilful as men, inspire and empower working mothers, bolster the self esteem of young people and motivate girls to embrace sport in their life and development.”

I think that’s worth gazillions of dollars personally.

“We are looking to align with organisations and individual donors who are interested in capitalising on, and promoting the qualities that The Will To Fly generates” says Bender. “Being able to effectively communicate an example success story such as Lydia’s, can have a lasting impact upon viewers, and hence the film can be used for greater purposes of influence.

The film also will generate positive attention towards supporting Australian Winter Sports and the future state of the Australian water jump facility.”
