VIDEO CONTENT. One man is alive today thanks to base jump instructor Chris McDougall who stopped him from jumping without leg straps 1.5 seconds before he was about to throw himself off a bridge to his death.
The base jumper, who clearly had no clue, climbed over the bridge railing in Croatia without being properly strapped in to his harness. If he had jumped he would not have survived.
McDougall was training a group of students when he noticed the tragedy about to happen and ran towards the guy screaming at him not to jump off the 110 metre high bridge.
Check out the video of what happens next. Warning, there’s a lot of expletives (as there would be in a situation such as this).
“How this can happen I do not know” writes McDougall on his YouTube Channel.
“But I hope this video will raise awareness to how important it is to pay attention to detail when base jumping. So many new jumpers come into this sport thinking it is all about go pro’s and social media and they forget the fundamentals of how serious and dangerous this sport can be if respect is not given to every aspect of it. I am glad I saved someone’s life, but each jumper must have the ability to save their own on each and every jump.”
