The Australian Olympic Team member, Tahli Gill, who tested Covid positive at Beijing Airport upon arrival has now returned her second negative Covid test and will resume her Games preparation.

Both Gill and her curling team mate Dean Hewitt went into isolation for two days after her positive test result.

“We are greatly relieved as a team, that goes without saying. But importantly for us both as a team, this experience is not going to define our Olympic campaign. We have treated this time as a rest day and a time to really focus on our Olympic goals. We look forward to representing Australia with pride and making history for our sport,” said the curling duo in a statement released today.

Tahli contracted COVID a number of weeks ago while training in Canada and had tested negative before travel in line with Beijing Games Playbook protocols, indicating she was at the end of the infection cycle.

AOC Chef de Mission Geoff Lipshut says he’s delighted with the good news and the positive attitude of the curling pair.

“They have dealt with this extremely well and we are very proud of them. Now they can resume their preparation for the start of competition on Wednesday. We are looking forward to Tahli and Dean becoming our very first curling Olympians,” Mr Lipshut concluded.
