Fancy experiencing nature’s Southern Lights fireworks from within the sky? Chimu Adventures have announced a series of scenic flights in 2021 to experience the Aurora Australis with departures from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
A 10 hour flight towards Antarctica will provide passengers with a birds eye view of the spectacular light event. Guests will fly onboard a QANTAS Boeing 789 Dreamliner towards Antartica over the Southern Ocean.
The flight itineraries have been carefully planned in consultation with renowned astrophysicist, Aurora hunter, and Director of the Otago Museum in New Zealand, Dr Ian Griffin. Expert astronomers will be on board to provide insight into the dancing lights, how the Aurora is created and, alongside photographers, instruct passengers on how to capture the Aurora in flight.
“Flying into the southern auroral zone is a wonderful experience, and you never know quite what you are going to see” says Dr Ian Griffin.
“As I said on my return from the first flight; We’ve travelled two-thirds of the way to the south pole, seen an incredible display of the southern lights, got lovely pictures, and we are home in time for breakfast.”
Different booking classes and a seat swapping structure in place will ensure everyone gets the best view of this amazing natural display from the large Dreamliner windows – the plane windows are 30% larger than other Boeing aircraft
The flights will coincide with the Autumn equinox when auroras are brightest and most frequent. Qantas inflight service will be on offer across both business and economy.
State border restrictions won’t apply to these flights, should COVID cause the cancellation or delay of flights, passengers are covered by the Chimu Adventures Book with Confidence policy.
Flights start from AUD$1295 – visit the Chimu Southern Flights website for April and May departures.
