Hot off the heels of last month’s Aspen X Games, the ski area is now set to host the FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships and the Land Rover US Grand Prix at Buttermilk in March.
This will be the first time in over 70 years that the resort has hosted a FIS World Championship since the 1950 ski championships.
The 2021 World Champs were originally scheduled to be held in Zhangjiako in China in February but have been rescheduled to Aspen from March 8 to 16 due to China’s current Covid-19 restrictions. The event was to have served as a test event for the Beijing 2020 Olympics.
The Aspen 2021 FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships will include slopestyle, halfpipe and big air events for both Snowboard and Freeski.
Four additional World Cup competitions will also be held after the World Championships – snowboard slopestyle, snowboard halfpipe, freeski slopestyle and freeski halfpipe events will be held from March 18 to 21.
