Skiers and snowboarders lucky enough to spend some pre or post snow time at the uber luxe Amangiri resort in the Utah desert will have a new luxury desert camp in 2020.
Amangiri has drawn the discerning traveller with a black Amex to Utah’s starkly beautiful landscape of deep canyons and vermillion rock formations for a decade now. One look at the resort’s website and you can see why.
Those who get to experience Amangiri in real life know that those spectacular photos don’t do it justice. Set in a protected valley with sweeping views towards the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, the resort is constructed around a swimming pool that shows off the dramatic stone escarpment.
The 34 suite resort (some with private pools and roof terraces) is a Mecca for travellers who love adventure as much as they love comfort. Add the 2322 square metre Aman Spa and Water Pavilion for some rejuvenation after a vigorating day climbing canyons.
Come April 2020 the resort will now also welcome guests to Camp Sarika by Amangiri – 10 tented-pavilions with individual private plunge pools on a luxury encampment surrounded by 600 hectares of raw wilderness in the heart of the desert. With its own main pavilion and restaurant, two spa suites, one main swimming pool and a Jacuzzi, all with that soul soothing Utah desert backdrop.
If you love escapism, adventure, solitude and privacy then you’ll love Camp Sarika by
Amangiri. It’s a 30 minute hike or five minute drive from Amangiri and guests at the camp will also enjoy full access to the resort’s facilities whenever they desire.
Surrounded by five national parks; numerous national monuments and the Navajo Nation Reservation the camp will enable a back-to-nature, wilderness experience with 10 tented pavilions and a Selldorf Architect designed common pavilion with restaurant and lounge areas, as well as two spa suites, a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi.
Take me there, now.
Claiming unobstructed views of the mesas or facing west to catch the sunset every evening, the tented pavilions feature either one or two bedrooms, as well as a living area, dining area, a bar, a private spacious terrace with a fire pit and an individual heated plunge pool.
The five one-bedroom tented pavilions each cover 175 square metres, while the five two-bedroom tented pavilions will cover 262 square metres. Designed by Luxury Frontiers, the tented pavilions mimic the spaciousness and clean lines of the suites at Amangiri, where natural materials reflect the light-transforming, undulating surface of the desert outside.
Two spa suites will offer an extensive menu of spa therapies inspired by traditional Navajo wellness practices, while yoga and guided meditation will be offered al fresco, allowing guests to reground themselves within the astounding natural beauty of the Utah desert.
The camp will also offer desert and mountain hiking with its own trail system, morning and afternoon Wellness experiences indoors and out, canyoneering, its own Via Ferrata route and horseback riding, as well as many other adventure activities.
April cannot come soon enough. Rates for Amangiri are around AUD$2700 a night dependant on season but that can also include two guided daily hikes, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
