A brave Belle Brockhoff from Australia has battled it out with the world’s best in the semi-finals of the women’s snowboard cross in PyeongChang, bowing out before reaching the final.
Michela Moioli of Italy won gold, France’s Julia Pereira De Sousa claimed silver and Eva Samková from the Czech Republic took bronze.
Belle Brockhoff had made it through horrific knee injuries to even compete in the Olympic Games, let alone make the quarter finals where she held her line strong to place third and move into the semi-finals.
At the start of her semi-final run she looked in pain but with pure determination and true grit, started to power down the hill, unfortunately falling just short of the finish.
The 25 year-old had been planning her revenge for a long time after coming back from an ACL injury. Belle got up to start in the small final, ending her run in 11th place.
A very emotional Belle spoke after the event, saying “I made it down and I am really happy with that.”
Talking of her recent injuries in the lead up to the games, Belle added “it has been a rough run in, I did everything I could to be here and represent my country.”
“I didn’t sign up to this sport for it to be easy, I achieved a lot today and I am really happy,” Belle added.
