The USASA National Championships are on at Copper Mountain this weekend and one 11 year old boy, Brian Rice, is laying it all on the line for his mum.
Brian’s mum Kit has brain cancer, diagnosed in 2008 when Brian was 3 years old. Treatment worked, for a while, but the cancer returned earlier this year.
A keen snowboarder from Michigan, Brian is ranked regionally in first place for half pipe, third place for slopestyle and third place for boarder cross. So he’s in with a genuine chance of podium success at Copper Mountain.
His nickname is FlyinBrian and the Rice’s local community of Farmington Hills have set up a GoFundMe page to help Brian achieve his dream of national domination at the championships with hopes of representing his country at the Olympics.
We wish Brian and Kit the best and will be cheering him on this weekend as he straps into his board and hits the slopes.
Go FlyinBrian!
